The Town of Denton Prepares to Launch Speed Radar Program

In the interest of Public Safety the Town of Denton will be joining other jurisdictions in the State of Maryland to utilize speed radar cameras. It is expected that the first camera will be in place at the beginning of June. The program will start with a 30-day period in which only warnings will be issued. After the trial period, citations will be issued to owners of vehicles that are photographed going at least 12 miles per hour over the posted speed limit. Fines for violations will be $40, but no points will be assigned to a driving record for convictions. Citations can be contested in Maryland District Court. The cameras will be used in school zones where the speed limit is 25 miles per hour or less. The Town of Denton will be publicizing the location of its cameras in a number of ways, including in news releases, Town publications, on the Town websites and social media. The Town of Denton Police Department is considering several possible stretches of roadways where cameras may be most effective. The actual locations will be determined using data from speed surveys. Chief Rodney Cox states “our primary goal is the increased safety of our citizens, including our student population, traveling in and around our school areas.”

NEW PATROL VEHICLES

2012 Dodge Chargers

Denton Police have placed into service three 2012 Dodge Charger Patrol cars. These vehicles are the first brand new patrol cars that the Department has purchased since 1994. Between 1994 and 2012 the Department purchased used/refurbished patrol vehicles, however, due to increasing maintenance costs associated with the used vehicles this option became fiscally unsound. They will be being marked in the near future. Please look for them in your neighborhood.
